The Insider: Courtney Boyd Myers
Courtney Boyd Myers knows all the coolest shit on the internet, and rightfully so—she’s the East Coast editor of The Next Web, an Amsterdam-based technology news site. She’s also just one of those hyper plugged-in girls who’s a joy to be around. Here, she reveals all. Or, at least some. —jiayi
Q: Where do you hail from?
A: I grew up in the Connecticut suburbs—and on Metro North. I used to ask my mom for twenty dollars to go to downtown for dinner and a movie. Then I’d sneak into the city for a night out with my friends. If I could catch the 12:17 AM train from Grand Central, I could make it home by curfew.
Q: What are you going to be wearing all fall?
A: Scarves! My acupuncturist said to always wear one. Otherwise you wind up cramping your shoulders because of the cold—which significantly strains your neck. I visited Istanbul a few years ago and bought a bunch of beautiful silk scarves. I have a purple floral one that’s hanging together by strings.
Q: Name one fashion thing that really makes your skin crawl.
A: Cargo shorts. To quote Superbad: “Nobody has gotten a hand job in cargo shorts since ‘nam!”
Q: Besides The Next Web, what is some of your required reading?
Q: What’s an app that’s rocking your world right now?
A: Tapl.io (pronounced tap-lee-oh)—it’s a browser extension that automatically shows you relevant links when you visit a restaurant page on Yelp or the like. It makes searching for and picking out restaurants so much easier.
