Designer’s Designer: Nana Spears and Naomi Clark of Fort Makers Heart Them Some Morgan Parish
When Naomi Clark and Nana Spears of the design collective Fort Makers fall in love with a great bag or a killer necklace, they are in a unique position: They might just be able to barter, swapping some of their rad, hand-painted scarves (see) or prints. And they’re always looking to get their hands on more pieces from their pal behind the supa-chic line Morgan Parish. —julia silverman

“I traded my friend Ayeisha [Mesinger] of Morgan Parish for the Clarendon Sac by giving her a couple prints from my time in Venice, Italy. It is the best bag I’ve ever owned! I ride my bike a lot, and it’s the perfect tote to sling over my shoulder to shop for groceries.” —naomi

“I bought these Morgan Parish keychains because of the beautiful and rich color palette. I wanted to see a bunch of them in person—and, honestly, I really wanted to touch them—so I bought them for all the ladies in my family and a few close friends. Now I get to look at them all the time!” —nana

Sure, everybody’s favorite transfer student might have gotten a Beverly Hills makeover, but she manages to own it (however briefly), giving the classic Cher Horowitz look a sort of Gwen Stefani infusion that keeps her skater-boy affections in the mix. Here, the key components. —erica

Alumni News: Forage Makes Some Girly Bow Ties
Back in April, Shauna and Stephen of Forage made an exclusive edition for us—the Bruiser bow tie. You may remember because, well, it was ridiculously good-looking and—not to brag or anything—sold out really quickly. Today, Forage released its summer collection which, to celebrate the company’s first birthday in August, includes a line of bow ties just for the ladies. “We wanted to do something really special to celebrate,” Shauna tells us. “Seeing female friends and customers wear our bow ties during the past year has been the perfect inspiration.”
The line includes twelve very colorful versions made from vintage broadcloth, Japanese chambray, or silk shantung—the gingham pattern pictured above, which Shauna has been obsessed with for six months, and features prominently in the collection. “It’s simpler in silhouette and longer in length,” Shauna adds. “It’s tied just like a bow on a present!” —jiayi

A Case for…Sophisticated Canvas

Hey, everybody! It’s summer, season of the boat tote. And as easy as it is to love a big ol’ bag, canvas should not be relegated to farmers’ market outtings or trips to the Cape. The material has gotten pretty polished lately, and it’s time to expand your horizons with these four just-fancy-enough pieces that still have plenty of ease. —erica
1) Twenty8Twelve Daisy dress: The hot coral color screams movie (and Solo-cup rosé) in the park.

As Working Girl’s heroine puts it, she has “a head for business and a bod for sin,” and her wardrobe alludes to her feminine wiles (and the thigh highs and garter belt she wears daily—come on). Here’s what’s required to win over both Oren Trask and Jack Trainer—combined with a mink and big-shouldered blazers, eighties staples. —erica
