Next Level: Sleeveless Sweater Dresses

image

Sweater dresses aren’t just for black-tight season, y’all. These four can do warmer months and will look dope with blazers ‘n’ pumps when things cool off. Let’s get to it. —erica

LEVEL I: Stripe-y! Easy! Coming atcha from Halston.

LEVEL II: Alexander Wang does vaguely sporty so dang well.

LEVEL III: The notches on this Ann Yee number—can’t stop staring at the notches.

LEVEL IV: Leave it to 3.1 Phillip Lim to deliver on the texture front: Check out that fringe detailing.

There’s more where this came from. Get it.

Weather Vain: Wilmington, Delaware - 87 and Partly Cloudy

image

Over the weekend, the whole Of a Kind team headed just a smidge south for Claire’s wedding (!!!!!). Here’s what we’d want to be working if we were still there today—but we’re kind of glad we didn’t have to try to pack for this heat, if we’re being honest. —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ A Dream Collective necklace totally ready to dive into dinner at La Fia.

+ A Polly Wales ring with stones that pay tribute to all of the flowers blooming at Longwood Gardens.

+ An Equipment top—about a polished (and clothed) as anyone can be expected to be in this heat.

Coclico wedges sturdy enough for some serious tax-free shopping.

+ Ann Yee shorts with an elastic band—in case you overdo at on cherry-vanilla ice cream at Woodside Farm Creamery.

+ A pouch from Rennes that won’t weigh you down as you explore Bellevue State Park.

Get all the “Weather Vain” you can handle!

Ahh, a cardigan, from Ann Yee, that requires no pants. (Well, that’s assuming you keep it zipped.) —erica

Inspirationale: Ann Yee Goes Nuts for Some Beaux-Arts Brilliance (in Michigan!)

Sure, there’s plenty of awesomeness to be unearthed in NYC, where the architectural-apparel phenom Ann Yee lives, but when brother sent her a pic he’d snapped on a trip to Detroit—Ann’s a Michigan girl!—her head started filling with new ideas. Here’s why. —keely thomas-menter

“This is a photo of the abandoned Michigan Central Station—you can really imagine how beautiful it was back in the early 1900s. The geometry and linear detailing are what attract me the most. I normally don’t think about a pattern or print when I see a building—more lines and silhouette—but this building screams texture to me. It got me thinking textiles and how I could mimic the pattern on a fabric.” —ann yee

In Tune: Ann Yee

In honor of fashion week and all the new-collections brouhaha, we’ve asked Of a Kind designers to share the songs that found their way into their spring 2013 designs. Oh, and: These music picks come with sneak peeks of said collections. Keep up with “In Tune” posts here.

I started playing 'A Little Respect' by Erasure a lot over the summer while I was working because it definitely does the trick when I’m feeling overwhelmed. It puts me in the best mood, and I just want to dance every time I hear it! It’s always been one of my favorites.” ann yee
