Weather Vain: Chicago, Illinois - 48 and Partly Cloudy
Here’s when things get tricky: You’re mentally prepared for spring, and the weather is not. Today is Cubs opening day in Chi-town—a signal of the changes of seasons if there ever was one—but you’re going to see a lot of hot cocoas at Wrigley. This is how to cope sartorially. —erica

Clockwise from top left:
+ While it’s still chilly enough for legit outerwear, go with a linen-and-leather varsity jacket from Maison Scotch that can withstand an afternoon stroll down Damon if you so desire.
+ This Epice scarf brings some color to the mix—especially key before things really take bloom.
+ Though it looks straight-up spring-y with its neutral stripes, this Crumpet cashmere sweater dress delivers the necessary warmth—kind of like a whiskey cocktail at Longman & Eagle.
+ Tone down the outfit’s toughness with the amazing rhino necklace Cold Picnic made for Of a Kind. Midwestern girls are approachable, after all.
+ Still with the tights and the boots! Scoop up Jeffrey Campbell pair now, and you’ll be ready to go again come September.

Flavor Flav might just ditch the clocks altogether if he knew about Cold Picnic’s rhino pendant. Cast in brass from a plastic garage-sale find, this guy is a little big for his britches, and that’s just how we like him. Everything else here—the vintage chain, the simple ring closure—are understated, though, so the necklace can hang with your wispy linen dresses and slick silk button-downs. —erica

Hot Shot: The Cold Picnic Book That May Never Happen (And That’s Okay)
Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer, the cooler than cool duo behind the earthy-tough jewelry line Cold Picnic, bonded early over a couple of left-of-center affections—namely the British humorist P.G. Wodehouse and pet parakeets, a.k.a. budgies (yah, who knew?). In fact, the first thing they made together combines the two and now hangs in their Brooklyn studio. Read on. —poppy

“This was the first project we worked on together, and we did it for a bit of a laugh. We embroidered this silly portrait of two big-for-their-britches budgies putting down social inferiors in sort of Wodehousian manner. We planned on doing a whole embroidered book of them but haven’t managed to get around to that yet.” —phoebe and peter
