Next Level: Overalls

image

You know what I’ve noticed? People have been using the word “dungarees” to describe what’s pictured above—maybe to soften the blow of their return. Let’s own it, guys. Cause The Fresh Prince and Winona Ryder were onto something. Four ways to get your OVERALL on. —erica

LEVEL I: Angela Chase would have lived in this super-classic Current/Elliott incarnation.

LEVEL II: Viva Vena! is doing a just-dressed-up take, and it would be killer with a collared sleeveless top.

LEVEL III: A little loud, sure, but with black underneath, this floral Phillip Lim version is totally doable. Bonus: The beige trim has waist-cinching powers.

LEVEL IV: Snake-print leather plus white denim?! Oh, Rebecca Minkoff is so going there.

It Takes Two: Callia & Claire Pull On Our Cardigan Sweater

Not sure if you noticed, but it’s sweater weather—at least in NYC. Here’s how Callia Hargrove, intern extraordinaire, and Claire Mazur (co-founder! etc.!) would wear one of our fave knits of the season. —erica

The Key Piece: Charlie Sweater by Cardigan by Lynne Hiriak

Callia’s Take: Veda vest, Current/Elliott pants, and Bed Stu boots.

Claire’s Take: Acne shirtAce & Jig pants, and Marais USA boots.

It Takes Two: Grace & Lindsey Rock Our ACB Cuff

Oooh, a new feature! Think of this as the opposite of “Who Wore It Best”: There’s some mad style happening around Of a Kind HQ, and we’re taking advantage of those fools silly enough to work with us by asking two of them to share how they’d each work an edition. Do it up! —erica

We’re at that weird stage when it might still be warm enough to go without sleeves…but you’re ready to yank on your boots. Here, Grace Canlas, the girl who does everything around here, and Lindsey Green, director of communications extraordinaire, have it both ways.

The Key Piece: Nevil Buckle Cuff by ACB by Annie Costello Brown

Grace’s Take: Sarah Loertscher earrings, Wren dress, and Provensen shoes

Lindsey’s Take: Clu top, Current/Elliott pants, and Rag & Bone boots

Next Level: Pastel Florals

A few summers ago, dark, moody florals were everywhere—the kind that even Tori Amos could have stomached back in the day. But now things have gone waaaay lighter, and you know what? We’re liking the Easter-dress effect more than we ever would have expected. Here are four ways to work it, depending on how out-there you want to get. —erica

LEVEL I: Little pops of navy and magenta give this flirty Rebecca Minkoff dress just a smidge of edge.

LEVEL II: Since it’s the back of this clutch Tenoversix made Of a Kind that is covered in flowers, you can reveal as much or as little of it as you want.

LEVEL III: Printed jeans—so hot right now. And this muted motif from Current/Elliott is one of the best.

LEVEL IV: Ok, kind of looks like pajama pants. But if you paired this Elizabeth & James creation with strappy sandals—in a bright, maybe?—and a cropped jacket, it could handle a serious night out.

Weather Vain: Boston, Massachusetts - 41 and Mostly Cloudy

If you’re spending your day in Beantown, wandering Fort Point or hanging in Cambridge, here’s what you should wear. You know, in my humble opinion. —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ A Hope wool coat that will keep you just warm enough for walking Charles Street.

+ Suede pants can do East Coast prep—especially these Current/Elliott ones with their jean-esque cut and rusty maroon hue, just two notches left of neutral.

+ In these comfy, gum-soled Belle by Sigerson Morrison puppies, you could take on the Freedom Trail if you so desired.

+ A hit of neon—here, in the form of a T by Alexander Wang sweater—goes a long way.

+ You might have to loosen this Lizzie Fortunato belt after a few scoops from J.P. Licks.

+ These diamond earrings—from Blanca Monrós Gómez just for Of a Kind!—are the same color as your fave cocktail at Drink.

Of a Kind

The only thing I don’t like about this situation—those pants! the saddle shoes! the collars! that hair!—is that Current/Elliott is going to make us wait ‘til spring to wear it. —erica

Weather Vain: Portland, Maine - 58 and Rainy

What’s this? Another new feature? We were thinking that because not everyone lives in fall-y New York or sunny L.A.—we feel you: Claire grew up in Wilmington, DE, and I was raised in Peoria, IL—we should highlight places that get a lot less fashion love. So! Without further ado! A biweekly column covering what to wear in a given locale on that day. First up: A wet one in Portland, Maine. —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ Little Loeffler Randall rain boots for sloshing around Monument Square.

+ Our stripe-y, terrycloth Thomas Sires shirt. Because nautical.

+ Mood-enhancing cords from Current/Elliott.

+ An oversize, weather-proof jacket from the men’s line Folk—borrowed from your lobstering boyfriend?

+ A chunky brass Samma bracelet jazzy enough for dinner at Farmer’s Table.

In Character: Melody Hanson

The internet doesn’t give a shit about Hey Dude. I know this because it’s impossible to find a usable screenshot from the *hugely influential* Nickelodeon show—only the network’s second attempt at live-action, mind you. But I will not let an apathetic internets or the crap image above dissuade me: Melody Hanson deserves our attention. As a seven-year-old, I thought she was the raddest, probably because, as played by Christine Taylor, she looked a whole lot like Ranch Hand Barbie (but she wasn’t snooty—that was Brad!). And here’s how to rip off Melody’s Bar None style. —erica

Khaki shorts from Current/Elliott that can withstand a summer in hot, dusty Arizona.

An appropriately girly bandana by The Hill-Side.

Dannijo earrings—BECAUSE HORSES.

Oh, there’s lots more where this came from: Check out past installments of “In Character” here.

In Character: Linda Barrett

The magic of Brad Hamilton’s dream girl is that she somehow appeared wholesome even when you knew she wasn’t. The perfect smile, the chipmunk cheeks, the plastic barrettes, and her all-American wardrobe—they were enough to convince you that she couldn’t possibly be one of the fastest things about Ridgemont High. —erica

A dark denim Current/Elliott jacket that screams, “I am the girl next door.”

A striped Hellz Bellz top that woos the customers at Swenson’s Ice-Cream Parlor.

The bikini, by Basta Surf.
