Of a Kind
There is absolutely no reason that this Dusen Dusen dress should be as HOT as it is. (PSA: Ellen just added this to her shop, so now’s your chance!) —erica

Next Level: Black Velvet Dresses

There is something so classic about a black velvet party dress—supremely festive in an appealingly throwback way. Here are four worth scooping up before you’re so desperate for something to wear. —erica
LEVEL I: My very favorite thing from a fall Dusen Dusen collection filled with SO MANY good things.
LEVEL II: Everything about this Carven dress is so Isabella Rossellini. Get that.
LEVEL III: Kimberly Ovitz’s take will make you wish you had stuck with the figure-skating lessons.
LEVEL IV: So prim…and somehow not at all. To Be Adored goes there.
There’s more “Next Level” just around the bend (or, you know, through this link).

Let It Flow: Ellen van Dusen and Her Hummingbird
It’s Of a Kind drink week! Or something like that! We’re asking some of our designers what they’re sipping on this summer, and today, the cool-ass gal behind Dusen Dusen (and these pillows) pours one out.

“My friend Cat makes me this drink, the Hummingbird, every time I go to her house, which is a lot. It’s 2 parts champagne, 1 ½ parts St. Germain, 2 parts club soda, and lots of ice—garnished with a lemon twist. It’s really refreshing and sweet, perfect for sitting on the stoop and sipping with a straw!” —ellen

Weather Vain: Fire Island, New York - 73 With a Chance of Thunderstorms
Ok. You guys. SUUUUMMMMMMMER IS HEEEEERE! And that means beachy weekends and fireflies and toasted marshmallows. If you’re heading to Fire Island to celebrate the occasion (like the designer behind Dusen Dusen is—hi, Ellen!), here’s what you should pack to take down any T-storms. —erica

Clockwise from top left:
+ A Dusen Dusen tote (duh!) in a very washable denim in case you have any sunscreen incidents.
+ The sort of Lizzie Fortunato cuff that will make you feel like you got dressed up for sunset dinner at Maguire’s.
+ A lightweight Ace & Jig poncho that has a certain Wet Hot American Summer vibe.
+ A no-nonsense (but cool-as-all-hell) Dsptch camera strap that matches the sand.
+ Summer rain shoes! Brought to you by F-Troupe.
+ The easiest little chambray shorts in the whole wide world—ideal for rosé sipping—that Atelier Delphine made just for Of a Kind.

Next Level: Paisley

Where did paisley come from all of a sudden? No matter: WE’RE FEELING IT. (Proof c/o our SFK edition here.) Here are four ways to own the pattern, which also goes by “Persian pickles”—something else we don’t entirely understand but are totally down with. —erica
LEVEL I: The paisleys on this killer Dusen Dusen bucket bag are tiny. And that just makes them pop more.
LEVEL II: Skip the basic spring anoraks and trenches and grab this B Store number. The quilted paisley section will make you feel like you own a horse in the country.
LEVEL III: With its pleats and curvy hem, this Pierre Balmain skirt makes a bandana print look avant garde. And how stellar does it look with a white shirt?
LEVEL IV: If you can pull off this Winter Kate dress, you should. That’s all.

Play Your (V-Day) Cards Right, Take 2
For the pink-and-red holiday, we’re serving up not only gifts but also approp card pairings. Yep, we’re doing you a solid. —erica

The gift: These screen-printed denim Maze and Cutouts Pillows from Dusen Dusen aren’t as saccharin-sweet as a big, fat bouquet, and they make a house look just as nice.

The card: Add this fortune-cookie-fueled Art School Girl card to the mix, and suddenly the pillows get suggestive. Well, look at that.
