Weather Vain: Dallas, Texas - 82 and Partly Cloudy

image

This week, we’re headed to TX. When we land, it’ll feel more like spring than summer, but here’s what we’d want to wear if we were hanging around Big D today. —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ An Acne shirt ladylike enough for perusing the racks at Forty Five Ten.

+ The sort of Iacoli & McAllister necklace that perfectly suits the up-n-coming Dallas Design District.

+ Paige jeans, ready for a long night of margs at Mattito’s.

+ Slim little Elizabeth and James flats fit for a stroll on Katy Trail.

+ Warby Parker shades as classic as the downtown Neiman’s.

So much more “Weather Vain” to be had over here.

Next Level: Shocking Pink

image

Pink can be a tough color to wear—which is why we suggest you just GO THERE, opting for the loudest, most flashy hue in the family. —erica

LEVEL I: Offset by camo, the bright cording of this Bluma Project bracelet is your classic POC (pop of color, guys).

LEVEL II: As you can see, these magenta Wood Wood jeans look rad with black.

LEVEL III: Lizzie Fortunato tassel earrings? Suddenly any dress looks waaay more fun.

LEVEL IV: Giejo mixes colors and patterns like a boss, and the vaguely athletic striping on this swimsuit keeps the Barbie color in check.

Of a Kind

Imogene + Willie, from the Nashville store of the same name, makes jeans. But the label also puts out shirts like this one to make you (and your denim) look like real class acts. —erica

Next Level: Rust

Today’s post is brought to you by the color rust—the sort of hue you only get your hands on if you throw it down for a Crayola 120-pack or pony up for one of these pieces. —erica

LEVEL I: God knows we love a fashion sweatshirt, and this MHL by Margaret Howell one will keep your white jeans in play well into the fall.

LEVEL II: Sessun = the king of the Frenchie dress.

LEVEL III: A cropped flare is a wee bit tricky, but by opting for this color, you’re making it clear that you’re really going for it with your Mother Denim.

LEVEL IV: Yes, this Haider Ackermann coat is loud, but it’s also so classy that you’ll want to drop off your dry-cleaning and shine your shoes.

In Character: Charlie Salinger

A decade before Lost came along, Matthew Fox was breaking hearts left and right on Party of Five as Charlie Salinger, 24-year-old man-boy with more responsibility than he can handle. Here’s how he dressed the part. —erica

A Farm Tactics henley that could pass for family dinner (or a night of bartending) at Salingers if need be.

A Gant by Michael Bastian shirt, made of flannel soft enough to soak up Claudia’s (possibly violin-related) tears.

PRPS jeans that the carpentry clients wanted to rip off him ASAP—even he couldn’t pull of pants with a hammer holster.

Next Level: Dipped in Blue

It feels like I’ve been running into blue-tipped things left and right these days, and you know what? I’m sweating it—especially when the starting point is canvas-white. Here are four ways to dip your toe (or torso!) into the look. —erica

LEVEL I: Your mom would love this Girl. by Band of Outsiders lace top. She wouldn’t even complain that the cut’s a bit boxy.

LEVEL II: Wren is the master of sweet-but-cool, as demonstrated by this dress. There’s a cutout in back that pushes things further.

LEVEL III: Somehow, the dipped calfs tone down these Rich & Skinny jeans.

LEVEL IV: Do you need a blue-and-white short-sleeve blazer? Ok, prolly not. But this J. JS Lee jacket makes a hard sell.

Next Level: Bleached Denim

We’re well aware that possessing a yearning for the nineties (in a word: NOSTALGIA) is hardly a new thing, but now we’re finally willing to let this affection push us to new fashion heights (depths?). We’re willing to dive into bleached denim. Go with us… —erica

LEVEL I: The cloud-like motif of these Sandro jeans makes them not so different from the floral denim that’s everywhere right now.

LEVEL II: Is it just me, or does the white-out effect make this jacket look so much chicer than black denim should ever be? The fact that it’s a collab between the so-polished French line Calla and April77 might have something to do with it.

LEVEL III: Think Yasmin Bleeth in these itty-bitty Mink Pink shorts. You want to hate the image, but…sold.

LEVEL IV: This House of Holland dress is loud. Like, Salt-n-Pepa loud. And that’s what’s so fly about it.

Next Level: Pastel Florals

A few summers ago, dark, moody florals were everywhere—the kind that even Tori Amos could have stomached back in the day. But now things have gone waaaay lighter, and you know what? We’re liking the Easter-dress effect more than we ever would have expected. Here are four ways to work it, depending on how out-there you want to get. —erica

LEVEL I: Little pops of navy and magenta give this flirty Rebecca Minkoff dress just a smidge of edge.

LEVEL II: Since it’s the back of this clutch Tenoversix made Of a Kind that is covered in flowers, you can reveal as much or as little of it as you want.

LEVEL III: Printed jeans—so hot right now. And this muted motif from Current/Elliott is one of the best.

LEVEL IV: Ok, kind of looks like pajama pants. But if you paired this Elizabeth & James creation with strappy sandals—in a bright, maybe?—and a cropped jacket, it could handle a serious night out.

Weather Vain: Baltimore, Maryland - 32 and Partly Cloudy

Ok, everybody, looks like there actually is going to be a winter this year. And though things are still mild, it is legitimately parka-weather. But that doesn’t mean you need to go all sullen and drab. Could this outfit Bmore upbeat? —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ A Rag & Bone parka that will get you through this winter on the waterfront…and the next one, and the next.

+ This Erdem scarf isn’t going to cut it on that frostiest days, but it’s ideal while things are still hovering around freezing.

+ Yes, you can wear white jeans (from Mother) in the winter. Just make sure you pile on the napkins for dinner at Woodbury Kitchen.

+ This Acne sweater is pink in the most accessible of ways.

+ With their low wedge, these Madison Harding booties can handle some serious strolling around Fell’s Point.

+ The simplicity of the brass earrings Laura Lombardi made for Of a Kind means they’re the ideal accessory to keep on call for any last-minute plans.

Head this way for past installments of “Weather Vain!”
