Weather Vain: Columbus, Ohio - 84 and Partly Cloudy

image

Can we talk about how the three biggest cities in Ohio start with C? Ok, we don’t have to. Instead, let’s discuss what to wear if you’re in the very largest C on a day like today. —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ A bag slick enough for weekday brunch at Pistacia Vera—c/o Sophie Hulme.

+ A Sea dress that will take you all the way to sweater season.

+ A Kelly Wearstler ring that’s itching to hit the galleries in the Short North district.

+ Miista jellies—reminiscent of your youth, just like two scoops from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

+ Lulu Frost earrings that jazz up any Monday (or, hell, Friday for that matter).

Next Level: Patterned Trenches

image

While there’s no arguing against having a klassic khaki trench in your arsenal, why not get a little crazy and add a zany, patterned one, too?  Four that’ll add some novelty to your spring getups. —erica

LEVEL I: Yes, it’s camo, but Kelly Wearstler’s shades-of-gray approach keeps things very easy.

LEVEL II: The cut of this Boy by Band of Outsiders number couldn’t be more standard, and the map-print sleeves would make Carmen Sandiego grin ear-to-ear.

LEVEL III: Alice + Olivia does a snake print that’s more subtle than it is Samantha Jones.

LEVEL IV: There’s a lot happening—brushstroke motif, black leather accents, drapey collar—and somehow this jacket is still really chic. Nice one, Yigel Azrouel.

It’s “Next Level” madness around here.

+ A black Hope button-down that, with its asymmetrical hem, is so much more.

+ A glam Kelly Wearstler cuff that will make you even more bummed that you missed The Sporting Project’s latest pop-up dinner series (a good reason to book another trip!).

+ The sort of easy necklace by Gabriela Artigas that won’t get in your way in the French Trotters fitting room.

+ This Gryphon trench will keep you dry..and motivated to make the walk to La Pâtisserie Des Rêves.

+ Nothing’s wrong with a little flash—especially in the form of these stroll-ready, Marais-friendly Dieppa Restrepo shoes.

+ Try not to empty this Clare Vivier wallet at Merci. Just do your best.

+ Iris & Ink leather pants the color of the wine that’s bound to fill your belly.

Next Level: Checkerboard MADNESS

Checkerboards are happening. Just ask Kerry Washington and Jessica Alba. Here, four ways to go that don’t require a step-and-repeat setting. —erica

LEVEL I: The gray-on-gray situation keeps this LnA top super-approachable.

LEVEL II: Want Les Essentiels makes is way-easy to add a (small-scale) take on the pattern to your arsenal.

LEVEL III: The classic shape—and skinny waistband—make this Kelly Wearstler dress more wearable than you’d think.

LEVEL IV: MSGM goes for it: Hey, crazy, neon flowers. On a sweatshirt.

This way to the “Next Level” archives!

Of a Kind

Kids, this is what primetime-worthy catchphrases like “fierce” and “I die” were made for. With its thick gold band and aggressively minimalist hunk o’ pyrite, this cuff—made just for Of a Kind by design phenom Kelly Wearstler—will have your friends (and prolly some strangers) grabbing at your wrist in no time. —erica

Next Level: Camo

Get the image of Nick Lachey’s cargo shorts outta your mind and EMBRACE CAMO. Come on! Here, four ways to do it right. —erica

LEVEL I: A super classic cut and an easy fit—Baldwin Denim knows how to make stellar jeans and jean stand-ins.

LEVEL II: Oh, yes: Equipment can turn a silk shirt into somethin’ special.

LEVEL III: Who says camo has to be green? In the city, you’ll blend in better in Kelly Wearstler’s gray take on the motif.

LEVEL IV: Camo and florals on one dress?! Oh, why the hell not—that’s what Karen Walker thinks, at least.

More four-part combo platters over here!

Next Level: Pyrite

Hunks of gleaming pyrite are the new crystals. (Ok, not that crystals are actually doing anywhere—they’re like the leopard print of the jewelry world.) Still! The rough-but-sparkly nature of fool’s gold is pretty magical…and a little nostalgic. Tell me you didn’t buy a piece of this stuff on a grade-school field trip. Here, how to wear it, no matter how risky your look. —erica

LEVEL I: This Lauren Wolf design is like the gold stud’s cool cousin—the one who owns every issue of Sassy.

LEVEL II: The wood and pyrite make this necklace Sophie Monet created for us feel both earthy and supernatural at once.

LEVEL III: Pretty sure that this Low Luv x Erin Wasson ring could open some secret doorway in an Indiana Jones movie.

LEVEL IV: Yes, this is a bangle. Because apparently Kelly Wearstler is tougher than we thought.
