In Character: Clark Griswold

AHHH, summer vacation. It’s upon us. And if you don’t have any big holiday-weekend plans, maybe you want to cozy up on the couch and make like Rusty, sharing a six-pack with the ultimate road-trippin’ dad? Here, how to rip off his look. —erica

A Barque polo that says, “My wife picked this out for me.”

A Band of Outsiders khaki bomber—cool enough to attract the attention of the blonde in the Ferrari, maybe?

YMC x Clarks loafers as classic as a trip to Wally World.
Another good Saturday activity: a deep dive into the “In Character” archives.

Jacques Flynn Offers Some Top-Notch Wardrobe Guidance
One of his best tricks: Get to know your tailor.
“I love a well-tailored suit. Like, really, really love. I jump at the chance to put a suit on with a great tie, a vintage watch, and, of course, a sophisticated wallet,” says Jacques Flynn, who, by the way, makes those wallets himself under the name Jaqet. The man is supremely well-dressed—nearly everything he owns has been tailored to fit—and he is also totally down to walk us through the best scores in his wardrobe. —carly pifer

“This is my blue Theory suit, with a crisp white button down, a slim tie, and a slim tie bar. I found the tie bar at some random local boutique in Long Beach. I think it really sets the tie off, and it happens to be quite functional!”

“Add that to my Gordon Rush leather lace ups—the shoes were a gift…”

“And my old Paketa watch—I love this thing. I really like pairing these shoes with this watch. They compliment each other really well. I got the watch for $50 on eBay, which is a total steal!”

“I’m not a huge graphic T-shirt guy, but when the graphic is this bold and simple, I’m all about it. I like to wear this shirt with my mint-colored jeans, my vintage Omega watch, and my trusty Adidas sneakers. The shirt is by a local Long Beach company called THIETH. Actually, the guy who is taking all these pictures here is the owner! Besides the shirt being one of my favorites, I, of course, dig supporting the local business. I got this watch off eBay, too, a couple of years ago. I like pairing the dressy watch with the casual shirt and pants. It makes for a nice contrast.”

“This is basically my everyday get up: a white V-neck, jeans—these are a pair of Obey I got years ago—my Levi’s denim jacket, and a pair of desert boots. The jacket was tailored by Arsen at Arsens Tailoring in Costa Mesa, California. The pants, by miracle, did not need tailoring—they’re straight off the rack!”

“I got the shoes from Topshop. I have a few sets of them, and whenever I’m in London visiting my sister, I make it a point to pick up another pair.”
Know what would go perfectly with any of these looks? Jaqet’s killer green wallet!
