Weather Vain: Austin, Texas - 91 and Partly Cloudy

Last Monday, we were in Austin. This Monday, we’re not. Instead of getting bummed about it, we’re taking a vacation in our minds. And here’s what we’re packing. —erica
Clockwise from top left:
+ An Apiece Apart top that’s anything but clingy—essential in this heat.
+ A Shashi bracelet as thoughtfully composed as the dishes as Uchi.
+ The sort of Sophie Monet necklace that’s just asking for some sunset sangria at Hotel San Jose.
+ A Jerome Dreyfuss bag—scored at Kick Pleat, perhaps?
+ A light-as-air Etoile Isabel Marant skirt that vibes with the global flyness at JM Drygoods.
+ Leather-trimmed aviators—Linda Farrow for The Row—ideal for exploring East Austin.
+ The sort of Marais USA sandals itching to be broken in anticipation of the steamy months ahead.

Alumni Sunday: Malachite Pyramid Necklace by Sophie Monet

Made from African shedua wood and a malachite stone, Sophie Monet’s necklace could go straight down Hippie-Dip Drive if she so desired. But the beauty of the necklace is how incredibly sleek it is, with a thin copper chain playing up the warm, woody tones and the geometric and organic shapes hanging together like it ain’t no thang. —erica

Weather Vain: New Orleans, Louisiana - 93 and Partly Cloudy
New Orleans in the summer? OOF. And this is just the beginning. Here’s what to wear in the Crescent City on a day like today when you’ve got to have your café au lait on ice. —erica

Clockwise from top left:
+ A Jérôme Dreyfuss bag that’s neutral…but not tooneutral.
+ A Raquel Allegra dress as white as the powdered sugar that coats a beignet.
+ Bright little Rebecca Minkoff sandals that can handle a hunt for a snowball, no matter how long it takes.
+ The mixed metals of this Dirty Librarian Chains necklace (just for Of a Kind!) mesh well with the city’s culture-melding ways.
+ A wood-and-howlite Sophie Monet bangle that goes as well with po’ boys from Parkway as poached gulf shrimp from Gautreau’s.
+ The no-fuss bifold Eayrslee created for us—encouraging you to carry no more than you absolutely need.

Wave Hello: Sophie Monet Okulick Needs These Two If By Sea
When you live in Venice Beach, you know a thing or seven about making time in the sand the best it can be. And the so-talented jewelry designer behind Sophie Monet doesn’t hit the ocean without these two musts—one sentimental, one practical. Trust.

“A couple friends and a great pair of sunglasses are my ultimate beach essentials. My friends and I grew up by the beach, so it’s naturally where we go to escape and dream up new ideas. I have a pair of sunglasses from Rodarte x Opening Ceremony that I have practically lived in for two years and another fun pair of Lennon-like shades that I wear when I feel like spicing things up.” —sophie

Weather Vain: Charleston, South Carolina - 81 and Partly Cloudy
I imagine it has to be tough living in a Southern city and trying to put together a fall look—or at least work in some autumnal colors—when the highs are in the freakin’ eighties. Here’s what I picture for a day like that (today!) in good ol’ Charleston. —erica

Clockwise from top left:
+ Menswear-inspired B Store suede lace-ups that can handle cobblestone streets.
+ A hand-dyed Ilana Kohn scarf—in case the A/C is up to high at Husk.
+ A ladylike Steven Alan silk dress in a color dark enough to hide any signs of sweat.
+ Our Sophie Monet Pyrite Pyramid necklace—cool but not aggressively so.
+ Sunglasses from Lunettes Kollektion fit for a little afternoon shopping excursion on King Street.
Hey! This is a new feature! Check out the first installment.

Next Level: Pyrite

Hunks of gleaming pyrite are the new crystals. (Ok, not that crystals are actually doing anywhere—they’re like the leopard print of the jewelry world.) Still! The rough-but-sparkly nature of fool’s gold is pretty magical…and a little nostalgic. Tell me you didn’t buy a piece of this stuff on a grade-school field trip. Here, how to wear it, no matter how risky your look. —erica
LEVEL I: This Lauren Wolf design is like the gold stud’s cool cousin—the one who owns every issue of Sassy.
LEVEL II: The wood and pyrite make this necklace Sophie Monet created for us feel both earthy and supernatural at once.
LEVEL III: Pretty sure that this Low Luv x Erin Wasson ring could open some secret doorway in an Indiana Jones movie.
LEVEL IV: Yes, this is a bangle. Because apparently Kelly Wearstler is tougher than we thought.

Visitation Rights: Sophie Monet
One of the best parts of NYFW at Of a Kind is getting to catch up with designers in from out of town…and picking apart their outfits. There’s a lot of “What is that?” and “Where’d you get this?” and “Can I try it on?” floating around. We offer as evidence: A few pics of the adorable Sophie Monet Okulick (who designed the necklace that’s become Claire’s summer trademark). And, since we asked, she’s wearing an awesome periwinkle agate ring of her mom’s, a grey tee with a sheer back (vintage, duhs), and a bold ‘n beautiful cuff of her own design. —erica

Of a Kind
Here I am rocking our Society For Rational Dress tunic as a shirt, with a capital “R” for resourceful (previously: as a dress). And, yes, that’s our Sophie Monet necklace, which basically hasn’t left my neck since we released it. We have meetings all day today and it’s approximately the temperature of fire here in New York. —claire
