In Character: Mrs. Euphengenia Doubtfire

image

image

Mrs. Doubtfire is a hilarious and wonderful movie—and not just when you watch it (over and over on VHS) as a 10 year old. Here, how to follow Kim K.’s lead and mimic the namesake character’s look. —erica

image

A shirt, by MSGM, that might catch fire when she leans over the stove.

image

A Sophie Hulme bag that is decidedly grown-up and dependable—just like this dad in drag.

image

Suno's loud floral blazer, worn with a matching dress, that looks even kookier next to Pierce Brosnan in his swim trunks.

It’s “In Character” madness over here!

Next Level: Knit Leggings

image

Even just stepping outside in NYC right now calls for an après-ski-style hot cocoa and time with a wooly blanket. So if you have a chance to trade jeans for some of these sweater-pant suckers, TAKE IT. This isn’t a leggings-as-pants endorsement. This is a leggings-as-warmth one. —erica

LEVEL I: What’s black and white and cozy all over? These A.L.C. guys.

LEVEL II: Opening Ceremony's take would look stellar with a BF’s fisherman sweater.

LEVEL III: Very seventies ski bunny, c/o Suno.

LEVEL IV: Henrik Vibskov delivers a very (loud) Memphis group vibe.

More “Next Level!” Get it.

Weather Vain: Cincinnati, Ohio - 14 and Mostly Cloudy

image

Man, it’s cold today in Cincy. So bundle up—and try not to let the chill hold you back. —erica

Clockwise from top left:

+ A winter coat—from Suno—that’s more sleek than it is snowman.

+ A Baggu tote that coordinates with Metropole's seared radishes and  baked cranberry beans.

+ Knee-high boots, from Cynthia Vincent, for stomping around Over-the-Rhine.

+ A Eugenia Kim hat that shields as much of your noggin as possible.

+ An Isabel Marant sweater, ideal for cozying up for a movie at Esquire Theatre.

+ J Brand jeans that are laid-back (and worn-in) enough for a visit to Rhinegeist Brewery

+ A Jennie Kwon ring that won’t get in the way of any of your frigid-weather gear.

+ Acne gloves that would look great wrapped around a macchiato from Collective Espresso.

Track Star: Grimes

image

image

image

The Vibe: Claire Boucher’s music and style are pretty ineffable, but she  calls the former “ADD music” and the latter “anime-goth.” Ok, then. You do you, Grimes.

The One-Song Intro: “Genesis”

The Look, Recreated: These silver flatform brogues from Jeffrey Campbell, this pattern-mixing Suno jacket, and this abstract leopard slip dress by Cheap Monday. maitri mehta

Next Level: Turtleneck Sweaters

image

Not-so-shockingly, turtlenecks have a bit of a resurgence every year—right about when the Starbucks holiday-themed cups surface. But this year, they really seem to be everywhere. Check out four worth cozying up to. —erica

LEVEL I: A.L.C. does color-blocking in a very easy-to-wear way.

LEVEL II: All that embroidery really fancifies this Suno guy. With a wool skirt, yah?

LEVEL III: Camo! But, thanks to MSGM and that coffee-with-cream backdrop, it has a softer vibe.

LEVEL IV: It’s kind of a lot, this 3.1 Phillip Lim situation. But with some skinny black pants and a pair of Chelsea boots…you know.

It’s “Next Level” madness right here.

Weather Vain: San Diego, California - 81 and Clear

image

TALK ABOUT A LOVELY DAY. If you’re in San Diego right now, well, congrats to you. Here’s how to celebrate in America’s Finest City. —erica

+ One Suno shirt, two personalities! (Which, by the way is totally an excuse to double down on the frozen goodness at Viva Pops.)

+ Perfect day for a pair of sunglasses (from Garrett Leight), no?

+ A skirt, by Raquel Allegra, that’ll hide the evidence of any Underbelly ramen accidents.

+ Awesome Jill Golden earrings—the crystals match the pale ales from Hess Brewing.

+ Rachel Comey shoes that could be slipped off very easily for some feet-in-the-sand time at Mission Beach.

+ A signet-style ring from Kule—as straight-up classic as the Hotel del Coronado.

+ A Clare Vivier wallet as BRIGHT and FUN as Belmont Park.

Next Level: Plaid Jackets

image

To quote hundreds (thousands?) of fashion stories, I’m MAD FOR PLAID. Especially when it comes in cozy outerwear form. Here’s where it’s at. —erica

LEVEL I: Pretty sure it doesn’t get any more classic than lumberjack-y red-plus-black, brought to us by Harvey Faircloth.

LEVEL II: How slick is this hip-grazing situation that Derek Lam served up?

LEVEL III: Double-breasted, slouchy, and cooler than cooll—Suno knows what’s up.

LEVEL IV: There’s something so fly about a short-sleeve coat, like this MSGM one—especially when it’s paired with looong gloves when the weather’s appropriately chilly.

Head this way for lots more four-part harmonies.
